I really enjoy working with couples who have an appreciation for photography. And Shana and Justin fit that description pretty well. Shana scoured Lexington for weeks, checking out locations and keeping me apprised on which stood out. We knew we wanted to hit the corn field maze on Old Richmond Road, but there was no way we could fit it in with the other locations we had planned. So we just bit the bullet and used up two evenings (both around sunset). So that accounts for all the sun flare and silhouette shots here. They’re also car enthusiasts, with some fast and loud sports cars of their own. So when they requested we try some shots with their prized vehicles in them, that gave me a chance to try out a little long exposure night photography. What we didn’t account for was the World Equestrian Games, which pretty much filled downtown Lexington, cramping every location we had hoped to shoot at. Ultimately, we found a quiet little spot behind Rupp Arena. And we had our own police chaperones throughout the shoot—they were just back there hanging out—and I’m sure they had to resist the urge to cite us, given how crazy we must have looked running around in the dark. At any rate, I’m looking forward to their wedding at the Buffalo Trace Distillery next spring.
