I was looking forward to doing some photographs with my friend Brandon and his fiance Eowyn. He’s a fellow photographer, and he and Eowyn had plans to lead us around Cincinnati, just hitting whatever cool spots we could in a few hours. Of course, that was our plan. What we discovered was that downtown Cincinnati had slowed to a crawl, thanks to a baseball game (in which the Reds clinched the NL pennant race) and a tipplers’ gathering (known as Octoberfest). But it didn’t matter in the end because the light bouncing through the city was some of the most fantastic I’ve ever encountered. It reminded me of the sharp Australian light I’d admired in the photographs of Trent Parke. And it made everything just look so darn cool. I was beside myself. Then, we hit the hillside parks for a skyline view before ambling off to Terry’s Turf Club to feast on one of the tastiest burgers I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Thanks, guys, for the great evening.
