It’s a rare that shorts and hiking boots get the nod as wedding attire. But for Jen and Matt’s ceremony and reception at Natural Bridge State Resort, outside Slade, Ky., it was must have gear. And it came in handy: much of the day was spent climbing up and down trails, squeezing through rock crevices and hightailing it across mini-mountains. But it was a pleasure to be part of Jen and Matt’s wedding day. They returned to Kentucky from their home in Portland, wanting to tie the knot close to where they grew up and where their families reside. And they were just a lot of fun to be around, always enjoying each other’s company. And although Matt had some difficulty remembering the lengthy vows he had written during the ceremony, it didn’t matter once the wedding was over and the two newlyweds were strolling to their chairlift: everything he wanted to say came racing back out. It was really touching to witness.

Karen and Daniel’s wedding took place at a charming church in Louisville, followed by a reception at the University of Louisville’s University Club. It was a fun affair, chock full of many friends and acquaintances I’ve met through other weddings. The next morning, the newlyweds were off to Acapulco for their honeymoon, a trip that came courtesy of Daniel’s winnings on Wheel of Fortune. They had a great time, as Karen said later. But just don’t ask them about the surprise eight hour bus trek through Mexico they had to endure just to get to another airport.

Victoria and Adam make a great couple, and they were a joy to photograph. This also doesn’t hurt: they’re photographers themselves, a fact that proved eminently useful out on our shoot. For instance, they were continually one step ahead of me, pointing out a cool shot or funny set-up. All I had to do was occasionally push a button (and run back for bug spray—but that’s another story). All in all, we had a great time jaunting around Lexington—it was like hanging out with old friends. They were down for anything I could throw at them: “Shall we crash this gala?” “I don’t see why not.” And I learned something: You know a shoot is going well when someone in your party has to be on the lookout for a security van.
Becky and Ryan were married in a charming ceremony at the Gateway Church of God in Mt. Sterling on May 30, 2009. The entire wedding and reception lasted only a few hours, but it was a lot of fun what with everyone just hanging out and enjoying each other’s company. By 4:30 p.m., the newlyweds were ready to hit the road for their honeymoon (although they found their vehicle festooned with streamers and “Just Married” exclamations).
