It’s always fun documenting the weddings of former students, particularly one as charismatic and charming as Brittany. She’s also, it should be said, wildly animated. And I had a hunch it would make for interesting photographs. This proved true. At one point, during a three-minute car ride to Wal-Mart, for instance, I snapped off about 20 or 30 frames of her behind the wheel. And I could have easily made a slideshow of just these photos alone–the range of dramatic expressions, laughter and emotion would have put a great opera to shame. Anyway, it’s great to see her paired with Shannon, who’s a really great guy. They’re brilliantly matched, I must say. And it was great to be able to watch them begin their life together. They were married in world-record time at the beautiful White Hall estate outside Richmond, Kentucky.

Emily and Robert were married at Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Kentucky, and then whisked by limo to their reception at Fasig Tipton. It was a great wedding, although it did bear one little quirk: It occurred on the same day that the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team played arch-rival Louisville in the Final Four. So in the midst of the reception, it was understandable when the band—the awesome Downtown Band out of Nashville—suddenly stopped playing: The game had entered the second half and all eyes were locked on the nearest televisions. Kentucky did as Kentucky does, winning the game, and the celebration then turned up a notch, spilling onto the dance floor. All in all, it made for one of the most memorable weddings I’ve been a part of. I hope the photographs capture at least part of the feeling of the day. The weather cooperated for Tracy and Drew’s engagement session, helping spring some flowering trees thanks to the unusually warm spring. So we took advantage of it, trekking around their old stomping grounds at the University of Kentucky and then heading out for the hills of Jacobson Park. Unfortunately, our sunset that evening got drowned out by some late clouds. But we still had a lot of fun finding other ways to make use of the gorgeous spring evening. Hope you guys enjoy your pictures—and I’m really looking forward to your wedding in June.

When Ali first contacted me, asking if we could do some photography in December, I was thrilled. It’s rare that anyone wants to brave the winter cold, and I was hoping this might present a chance to do some snow images—something I’ve always wanted to do. But, alas, it’s gonna have to wait for another year. Instead, we were greeted by a nice warm day, one more typical of October than the week before Christmas. At any rate, I had a great time hanging out with Ali and Benet, touring around Keeneland for their engagement shoot. And I’m really looking forward to their wedding this June.
